Are High-Gain Antennas Putting You at Risk of Breaking the Law?

During a recent meeting with the UK regulator Ofcom, the Low Power Radio Association raised a critical compliance concern: Users and manufacturers of cellular and SRD (Short Range Device) products may be breaching the law by fitting high-gain antennas.
Why This Is a Serious Issue
Swapping a standard antenna for a high-gain version might seem like an easy way to improve coverage, but it often pushes devices beyond legal power and spectrum limits. This can result in:
Non-compliance with CE, FCC, UKCA, RED and other directives
Market withdrawal or product bans
Complains from other users or competitor
Possible enforcement actions from regulators
This applies to everything from IoT devices, gateways, and SRDs to cellular-based equipment.
