Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Cyber deadline: calling all product managers!

Friday 1st August 2025 marks the date on which the long-awaited RED Cyber provisions come into force in Europe. Many of our members are active in exporting to this important market, but also those that rely on CE marking to place equipment on the UK market will need to update their certification documentation.

This is a significant piece of legislation that introduces formal requirements for cyber resilience in most radio products; a welcome step forward in the protection of both public networks and well as users’ privacy and personal data. Nevertheless, as well as an opportunity to review the design for security of your products it also demands a not insignificant challenge to develop the necessary paperwork.

Those of you that attended the LPRA’s recent webinar on RED Cyber and the Cyber Resilience Act will be aware of many of these details. For the rest, that webinar is available HERE. Experts at the LPRA are familiar with detail are on hand to provide further advice in case our members have concerns or questions.

As the webinar highlighted, a still more significant raising of the bar will follow with the Cyber Resilience Act which will take effect from December 2027.

Watch for updates from the LPRA in the months ahead.
